Driving while Black, walking while black,......and now living while black.

If hurricane Katrina had struck IDAHO, or IOWA we would have had food/water drops 2 days into the disaster (just like the tsunami disaster), NOT A WEEK LATER. This country stills treats is black citizens as second class. And just for the record, 90% of the people who are now stuck in New Orleans WERE leaving, but because of the high cost of gas, and the fact these people make less than 12K a year, and the fact the hurricane occurred at the end of the month before any one got paid, they were walking, not driving, to get out. However, as the hurricane neared there was no way for them to leave the city in time, so the mayor told them to make their way to the "dome". I congratulate this mayor for having the guts to say what needed to be said, and saying it just like he said it "....get off ya asses". The fact that we are just now seeing food/water enter into New Orleans is appalling. We can no longer call ourself Americans, or christian for that matter, if we do not hold this Administration responsible for waiting a week. When Terry Shiavo was upfront, Bush, cut his vacation short, and stayed up until 3 or 4am in the morning in order sign, what would have been, an unconstitutional law.
It was two days after the hurricane, before Bush even gave a press conference. Condi thought it would nice to take in dinner and a movie (she went to see Spamalot in New York; she also went shoe shopping). We have a FEMA director blaming the people for what's going on, instead of the blaming the incompetence of Homeland Security, which FEMA has been placed under ( no longer a cabinet level agency ). Let's not forget FEMA was made stronger under Clinton and better able respond to disaster. Bush has cut funding from FEMA and from the Army Corp of Engineers, who were responsible for building the levees.
Sen. Mary Landrieu, Gov. Blanco, and Mayor Nagin have been asking for the money removed be put back into the funding for Army Corp of Engineers and to continue building of the levees, since 2003. Did you know that contractors helping with the construction of levees did work for FREE because they understood the necessity of having the levees completed, something our President can't comprehend.
In the initial stages of the hurricane (on Saturday), Mayor Nagin asked for help from airlines to help get the indigent population out of the city. The airlines (American Airlines, Delta....) response was to hide behind "all of a sudden cancelled flights", because they care more about giving million dollar severance packages to bad CEOs.
Dennis Hastert - (Republican) said "...it does not make sense to rebuild New Orleans...". He makes this statement while staying in his wonderful, ALL CAUCASIAN, mansioned community.
Bush was playing golf, on Monday, in California, and trying to squeeze in a speech before leaving Crawford (after not taking care of another situation right outside his front door -- Cindy Sheehan). Now he's blaming his advisors for not making the magnitude of the disaster more apparent. Hey Prez, if the average american can watch TV and go on the internet and get a enormous amounts of info, why couldn't your advisors, or you for that matter, be better informed.
If Bush can't run the Iraq war effectively, having had foreknowledge of faulty evidence preceding us going to war, why would we think he could manage a natural disaster, having foreknowledge it was coming.
Bush has shown himself unfit, unqualified to run this country. I don't know if I can take 3 more years of Bush. HELL, we probably won't have an America in 2008.
A couple things to look out for:
(o) The uncompassionate, conservative right will try and blame the mayor and governor for this atrocity, since they are both democrats.
(o) The MEDIA will continue to depict blacks as "looting" to find food, and depict whites as "finding" food. Go to www.ap.com and notice the caption on the images that have blacks verse whites. I wholeheartedly agree with Kanye West's statements.
(o) The uncompassionate, conservative right will depict the hurricane as god's punishment. The Bible says (paraphrasing) "..... we have not been punished, as our sins warrant...". Perhaps conservatives should read the whole Bible before using it to further ungodly conclusions.
