Young vs. Young
This is some beltway BS.
PERIOD!!!!
Repeated efforts by The Associated Press to reach Young were unsuccessful.Yes, Andrew Young, once an outsider helping to fight the system of injustice, is now a part of the "...protective network..." -- ie. bubble. We progressives chide Bush&Co about being in a bubble, but we must begin to accept that some of our best progressive advocates have crossed over to be encapsulated in the Washington bubble. However, the charge against the youth that they are NOT ready for leadership, is unfounded. Andrew Young as well as other "democratic" beltway pundits have tried to straddle the fence between Hillary and Obama. We want Clinton now, and then Obama later. The arrogance of some people. But I digress. This is not a "Why I support...." blog entry.
Young's comments were prompted by a member of the audience who inquired about his opinion on Obama's candidacy.
"I want Barack Obama to be president," Young said, pausing for effect, "in 2016."
"It's not a matter of being inexperienced. It's a matter of being young," Young said. "There's a certain level of maturity ... you've got to learn to take a certain amount of (expletive)."
Young went on to say that Obama needs a protective network that he currently lacks - a quality that could hurt him if he were to be elected. He said Hillary Clinton already has that kind of network, including her husband to back her up.
Somewhere along the way Young got the idea that the young can't serve in leadership roles. Tell that to:
the 18, and 19, year olds serving in the military. the young people who were the ones sprayed with water hoses and bitten by dogs during the the civil rights movement. the Jena 6 protesters who were mainly young afican american college students. the young people of Iran, and Iraq, who speak out against their government, at a risk to there own life. the children of Zimbabwe, who continue to speak out even when limbs have been cut off, or in the case of girls limbs cut off and genitals mutilated. the protesters who spoke out during Rwaanda, and are speaking out against Darfur
Mind you, there's are alot of "old, and experience" people in charge right know while these exploitations, and atrocities are occuring, Young included.
As a matter of fact, "old people" have been at the helm during the worst atrocities known to mankind:
If this is what you get with old and experience, please no more......I can't take it....the world can't take it. Andrew Young is wrong in his assertion and the fact that he has allowed the bubble to surround him means we can no longer rely on him to be a voice in the wilderness.American slavery 300+ years (several old people in charge namely presidents) Holocaust (an old maniacle lunatic in charge by the name of Hitler) Zimbabwe (old man by the name of Mugabe) Subjugation of women (several old people in charge, namely leaders of countries including America) Dropping a nuclear bomb on Japan (ALOT OF OLD PEOPLE IN CHARGE) Starting Iraq War (same here)
Number Of Iraqis Returning To Baghdad Being ’Massaged’
Still not telling the truth about whats going on in Iraq, apparently the "patched" together Iraqi parliament has taken some political pointers from Bush&Co, namely lie your ass off.......but if that doesn't work then [ massage statistical figures ].
By all accounts, Iraqi families who fled their homes in the past two years are returning to Baghdad. Now, why would you need to fluff numbers? To show the supposed "improving security situation" of course, greater than 100 dead Iraqis last week notwithstanding. Also fluffing the numbers make the inept Maliki government look as if it is accomplishing something even though they are NOT.
The description of the scope of the return, however, appears to have been massaged by politics. Returnees have essentially become a currency of progress.
On Nov. 7, Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, the Iraqi spokesman for the American-Iraqi effort to pacify Baghdad, said that 46,030 people returned to Iraq from abroad in October because of the "improving security situation."Even the UN disputes the figures of Iraqi official....
[snip]
But in interviews, officials from the ministry acknowledged that the count covered all Iraqis crossing the border, not just returnees. "We didn't ask them if they were displaced and neither did the Interior Ministry," said Sattar Nowruz, a spokesman for the Ministry of Displacement and Migration.
As a result, the tally included Iraqi employees of The New York Times who had visited relatives in Syria but were not among the roughly two million Iraqis who have fled the country.
[snip]
Some Iraqi lawmakers said that overly broad figures were being used intentionally.
"They are using this number because they want to show that Maliki is succeeding," said Salim Abdullah, a lawmaker and member of the largest Sunni bloc, known as the Accordance Front, referring to Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki. "But this does not make the number correct. I think dozens of Iraqis return home daily, but not 1,600."
A half-dozen owners of Iraqi travel agencies and drivers who regularly travel to Syria agreed that the numbers misrepresented reality.
A United Nations survey released last week, of 110 Iraqi families leaving Syria, also seemed to dispute the contentions of officials in Iraq that people are returning primarily because they feel safer. Will we ever get the truth about Iraq, because success isn't it.
The survey found that 46 percent were leaving because they could not afford to stay; 25 percent said they fell victim to a stricter Syrian visa policy; and only 14 percent said they were returning because they had heard about improved security.
60% Of Iraq Foreign Militants Come From U.S. 'Allies'
Hear that republicans / neocons, 60% of Iraq foreign militants come from U.S. allies, specifically Saudi Arabia.
Around 60% of all foreign militants who entered Iraq to fight over the past year came from Saudi Arabia and Libya, according to files seized by American forces at a desert camp.
NOT IRAN.
So stop the sable rattlin'
U.S. Military Wants Signing Bonuses Returned
The jackasses responsible for even deciding to send these letters out should be fired..........hell, lets waterboard them since we can't seem to say it is torture (and it is).The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.
To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.
Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.
One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills.
[snip]
Fox was seriously injured when a roadside bomb blew up his vehicle. He was knocked unconscious. His back was injured and lost all vision in his right eye.
A few months later Fox was sent home. His injuries prohibited him from fulfilling three months of his commitment. A few days ago, he received a letter from the military demanding nearly $3,000 of his signing bonus back.....
